Engineers, artist, CPAs, economist, pharmacist, tax officers… you name it. If you wanna see them all gather in one graduate school, where would it be? It could be GS of accounting, law, commerce, economics… anything. Would that be a form of inconsistency in educational and career path? Not so fast! Thousands of dollars and months to spend were just too costly to simply throw away your original background into something new.
I find it ridiculous when a high rank manager of one big organization – let’s say with 60 thousands of employee – would easily judge that such or such graduate school is related to what the organization needs therefore forbids employee to take other than that. Prioritizing is rational, but it would likely become one huge package with organizational long term strategy, budgeting, personnel’s plans and many other managerial things attached to it. When it was all scattered in pieces what we would see is just a confusing pattern and decision, especially when it followed by a judgment that the restriction of several graduate schools taken decided because such graduate schools is not related to their daily job. How can you expect a school to have the exact courses just for a certain organization... well unless if it was your own school, o'course :-)
I’m not dictating the needs of this huge organization, in fact I put my trust on what they have decided. What I was questioning is that if managers have decided -for example- that the organization needs an engineer, politician or a tax expert why would they take scholarship fund from a country that –with several considerations- only offering an MA of International Relationship or MBA degree? If they still put an employee with Mater of Taxation degree as a Head of Public Relation Division why would they demand more employees with MTax degree? If they need hundreds or even thousands of specialists in technical capabilities why not developing a sustain internal gradual technical trainings system instead of sending only tens of employees abroad at the same cost?
To wrap this journal I finally must agree that this organization –like every organizations in the world- need to put the right man in the right position, or at least let a manager with congruent expertise make a decision. But instead of making a swerving maneuver, no.1 priority for the abovementioned case is to leave it to the MBAs… ^_^
